As we mark the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion, I bring you three tracks from the brilliant anthology Even the Forest Hums: Ukrainian Sonic Archives 1971-1996, released by Light in the Attic Records.
From Finland, jazz veterans Heikki Sarmanto and Juhani Aaltonen—now 85 and 89 years old, respectively—return with a new album on Jazzaggression Records, and the opening track is here for you.
France’s Wewantsounds revisits the legendary Manu Dibango with a previously released live recording from Marseille, 1982. Meanwhile, Warsaw’s ever-fresh Mondoj label presents a collaboration between Patrick Shiroishi and Piotr Kurek.
Japan’s selections include cult actress/singer Meiko Kaji’s 1972 debut Gincho Wataridori and Yoishiro Yoshikawa’s Tassili N’Ajjer, taken from Time Capsule’s TV, Anime … Soundtracks 1984-1993.
Rounding out the show, we have new music from Sweden, Norway, and Canada. Enjoy!
Slava Ukraini!
